Book Reviews

Saturday Book Haul!

A slightly different blog post this Saturday as I’m still reading the book I’m meant to be reviewing, wait, doesn’t this sound familiar to a recent post that I did? You are absolutely right! The difference this time is I’ve almost finished this book but I don’t think I will have time to get the review live today so, something new.

This week I have accumulated lots of new books despite my every growing TBR pile and bowing bookcases. And here they are –

Karen Rose’s latest instalment following Clay Maynard, a private investigator searching for his daughter. I love all Karen Rose books and am going to try to get up to Scotland to see her in the Bloody Scotland festival, money allowing that is. Her writing style is so easy to read and she has me guessing throughout, I would fully recommend you give her a read if you like crime novels!

Christina Henry’s latest retelling that was sent to me by Titan Books. I loved her re-tellings of Alice in Wonderland and can’t wait to start her origin story of the infamous Captain Hook. Her dark humour and dark settings make me feel right at home within her novels. If you don’t like dark re-tellings stay away from her as she is not for the weak of heart.

Another book sent to me by Titan Books and the one I am currently reading. Following a stunt woman in Hollywood surrounded by supernaturals Lee needs to do everything she can to stand out. Already this novel is fast paced and full of action. I won’t say too much more except if you can get your hands on a copy of this book do so!

Andy McDermott was one of the first authors I started to read religiously. Due to uni work, normal work and life I have slipped behind in this action filled saga but am very much looking forward to losing myself with Nina and Eddie as they search for their next big find!

I received this copy free from Gollancz. Since my science fiction module in uni I have had a slight love for H.G.Wells so when it was offered free to book bloggers I snapped it up. I don’t know when I will get around to reading this one, hopefully soon, but I know this is a book that will demand my full attention.

And finally American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I would love to be able to buy all of his books in one and binge them but unfortunately life (and money) gets in the way. I will admit I bought due to the hype of the TV series but I have not watched the series. I very much believe in reading the books first (which is also why I haven’t watched GoT yet). I know very little about the book expect what the blurb says so I can’t wait to read it!

And there you have it, my book haul this week! I won’t be making this a weekly post as some weeks I can’t afford to buy any books but when I have a haul big enough I think I will try to remember to do one ๐Ÿ˜›
